Can you imagine our excitement when a new cafe opens up locally, that doesn’t serve raw quinoa soaked in organic pomegranate extract that was prepared by a free range chicken?? So when Ajitoya opened its doors not too long ago, we were one of the first ones to try it. Unfortunately we were kind of disappointed by their super high stools around tiny tables, tiny portions, unexciting menu and the overall “bare” feeling that we got when we were in then. But over the next few months we noticed how packed the place came to be, night after night, day after day.
So as Mochi Jungle required, we went back to try it again. And I’m glad we did! What a huge improvement Ajitoya has made in the past 12 months that it’s been operating. Yes, the cafe has changed radically in its appearance (no more uncomfortable high stools) and the food has become amazing! Here’s what we ordered:
Agedashi tofu – dashi broth was so good that I drank some of it after we finished the tofu.
Shabu shabu chicken udon – beautiful cold chicken on udon, with a sprinkling of greens and reds, crispy tempura puffs, crushed peanuts and a subtly sweet sauce. Great texture and yummy taste.
Cool foxy with soba – vegie option, with tasty tofu, seaweed, more tempura puffs and other little bits. Hubby got into it before I could get a fresh photo.
Ajitoya is worth a try if you’re in the area. Be prepared for some seriously homely food that’s served up by some very friendly staff.
