Ok, where do I start? So everyone got home late today, which inevitably always ends up with us getting take away or heading out for a quick bite. We ventured a bit further than usual, ordering take away Japanese food from Ebi. Now, Ebi normally does not disappoint, but today it did! Hubby got the salmon bento, which was nice. Nothing to rave about, but everything was tasty and tasted as it should. I got the bento of the day: pork cooked three ways. Now that sounded exciting!!! But when we picked it up, “pork cooked three ways” ended up being a bento box containing a sausage, some chorizo and a couple of pork patties. Tasty? Yes. But it didn’t quite register on the Japanese tasting scale! Let’s just say that I was surprised, but not in a good way.
Salmon bento
Not sure what happened to the photo, but this was the “pork cooked three ways” bento box of the day. Odd!
Luckily we also got some dessert to take away: black sesame panna cotta. Now I must confess, this is only the second panna cotta that I’ve ever had in my life. The only other one that I can compare it to is the wobbly Madonna cone boob from Jonah’s near Summer Bay (yes, the fictional Summer Bay in NSW). Never seen one? Click and scroll here. So the “booby cotta”, I assume, is a proper panna cotta (it sure costs a lot more!), which Ebi doesn’t really match in texture or density. However that’s not to say that it isn’t just as equally satisfying. There was a good black sesame flavour, it was nice and creamy and the accompanying peanut clusters and deluxe Pocky were much enjoyed.
Black sesame panna cotta
Overall, flavours were good. I just wasn’t really expecting to find chorizo and sausage in my bento of the day!
Note: Ebi is a Japanese/fish & chip take away shop. They do have limited seating inside and outside, but I must stress the word “limited”. And be prepared to dish out close to $50 for two people, including drinks and dessert. This take away shop ain’t cheap!

Hi thanks for your patronage sorry it didn’t quite meet your expectations. The sausage in the bento is called arabiki and is of Japanese heritage the pork patties are called Tsukune and I am afraid I just happen to like chorizo. We do claim to be “fusion” so we have a bit of leeway to be a bit indulgent
Hope we can excite you more another time
